Bylaws Committee: Proposed Bylaws Amendments

The GEO Bylaws Committee has recommended two proposals to the membership for review and comment.  This posting and a membership email sent out today, Friday March 16, 2012, serve as notice under the GEO Bylaws, Article 16, that the Bylaws Committee intends to bring these amendments before the April 9, 2012 GEO Membership Meeting for an up or down vote.

There will be a ten day comment period, during which we encourage members to email the Bylaws Committee at with their comments and concerns.  After this comment period, we will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 from 4 to 5pm for additional discussion.  The bylaws committee will then take members’ comments and concerns into account before submitting final language to the membership for an up or down vote at the April 9, 2012 GEO Membership Meeting.  We will also work with the elections committee, leadership, and staff to provide an opportunity for members to vote outside the Membership Meeting.  Those polling times and locations will be announced with the final language.

The content of the proposed changes is available at the link below:

Thank you,

The GEO Bylaws Committee

* As resolved last fall, the 2009 and 2010 stipend raises and retroactive payments have started to arrive! On January 21, those employed in fall 2009 should have received their retro for that year. February 18 will see the new stipend rates, and then by March 4, all lump sum retro payments should have been made.  Contact the GEO Office if you have questions by emailing or calling 413-545-0705.

* GEO members also grieved the rise in birth control prices, which have been lowered to the contract limit of $10 per month. Those who paid more than $10 will be automatically reimbursed by a check from AETNA. If you are still paying more than $10, or did not use your AETNA insurance for contraceptives and need to be reimbursed, please email  Your check will be addressed to the address AETNA has on file for you, not the address the University or GEO has.  Please make sure to update your address with AETNA using the AETNA Navigator.
