Are you an international student with an assistantship?  Come join the members of the Graduate Employee Organization’s (GEO) International Student Caucus and staff from the  International Programs Office (IPO) at a casual meeting to discuss some of the challenges of being a student and an employee at the University of Massachusetts.    Meet other international graduate employees and discuss your ideas and experiences with the IPO staff.  Light refreshments will be served.

10/18/2011 Statehouse Lobby Day to Save UMass Healthcare

GEO and other UMass Amherst students are joining a delegation from UMass Lowell, UMass Dartmouth, and UMass Boston, and Mass-Care to speak with legislators about the recent cuts to UMass student health insurance. GEO is providing transportation, and welcomes both GEO members and undergrads interested in saving UMass health care to join us.

We will be leaving Tuesday morning, October 18, and returning in the late afternoon the same day.

RA Union and GEO Member, Activist, and Steward Training

UAW Local 2322 is holding a training for GEO and RA Union stewards, activists, and members. While all members are encouraged to attend, a basic stewards’ training is a requirement for acting as a steward for GEO or the RA Union. If you think you might want to become a steward in your department or residence hall at some point this year, or just want to be more involved as a member, please plan to attend.

This training will include:

  • Rights, responsibilities, and roles of stewards
  • Weingarten rightsDuty of fair representation
  • Grievances
  • The steward as organizer
  • Your questions and concerns
