SOLIDARITY WITH RAPMU!

With the Chancellor’s latest reopening plan announcement on Friday came massive layoffs to our sister Union RAPMU (Resident Assistants and Peer Mentors Union). We join in solidarity with RAPMU workers demanding that UMass honor the layoff language in their contract! PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION TO HONOR THE RAPMU LAYOFF LANGUAGE!

GEO WORKS TO RULE!

What is work-to-rule? Historically, work-to-rule means interpreting a labor contract in a way that is strictly to the benefit of the workers. Following the Cambridge Dictionary definition, work-to-rule is “a form of protest in which employees do exactly what is stated in their contracts, and nothing more, in order to slow down production.”
Our approach to work-to-rule does not entail the withholding of work. It implies not doing work that is typically expected and done for free, for example, preparatory work prior to the start date of a contract.

Why Work-to-rule? Why now? UMass works because WE work. Without graduate student labor, the university’s operations would grind to a halt, and cease to generate revenue. Work-to-rule is not a refusal to perform labor; it is a refusal to do anything more than what we are contracted to do. If this upsets our bosses, there is a simple solution. PAY US FOR IT.

MORE GEO ACTIONS: CAMPAIGNS & PETITIONS

UMass Works Because We Do! Calling all UMass grad students and friends! Inform yourself and your co-workers: read, sign, share the petitions below with many urgent demands beyond summer pay! Admin gave us a pathetic response at the GEO bargaining table. We need to let them know we will hold them accountable, they have a responsibility to UMass workers!

There is now a UMass Coalition, a group of grad student workers at UMass Amherst that has been working very hard, and has produced a set of demands we are all fighting for together! GSS has officially signed off on these demands! Read the TWO petitions linked below, sign BOTH, and share them as widely as you possibly can! Anyone can sign! The total number of grad students is about 6000. Make sure you share this with EVERYONE you know from UMass so we reach everyone, not just GEO members! Over 800 signatures reached already!
