Fellow workers,

GEO leadership is organizing for the upcoming Labor Notes conference (April 19-21) in Chicago. Pending funding, GEO is preparing to send a number of member leaders from our union. Because of the anticipated high volume of interest, we will be using an application process to determine who GEO is able to send. The link to the application, as well as a Q&A about Labor Notes, can be found below. If you have already individually registered for the conference and are interested in applying to be sent there by GEO, please indicate this on the form in the appropriate spot.

Q&A

What is Labor Notes? What is the Labor Notes Conference?

Labor Notes is "a media and organizing project that has been the voice of union activists who want to put the movement back in the labor movement since 1979." Labor Notes hosts a conference every two years, described as "the biggest gathering of grassroots union activists, union reformers, and all-around trouble makers out there!"

This year’s conference will take place in Chicago from April 19-21. You can read more about the conference here. Pending funding, Local 2322 hopes to send a number of member leaders to this year’s conference.

What expenses will the GEO cover?

GEO will cover conference registration, flights, hotels (shared rooms) and per diem ($55 for overnight stays $25 for day of return).

The Membership will need to vote on the budget and the conference expenses. The amount of funding approved will determine the number of applicants awarded; in the event that no funding is approved, GEO will inform all applicants of this.

Who is qualified to attend Labor Notes?

Any dues-paying member in good standing may apply to attend Labor Notes!

What does the application process look like?

GEO will approve funds to send members to Labor Notes at the 3/25 General Membership Meeting. Notifications regarding acceptances will go out that evening or the next morning.
