1. Bargaining 2020 Session #1 SAVE THE DATE 24 MARCH Do you know what Bargaining is? It’s the most important process affecting your employment, your wages, your benefits, and your protections on campus. The union is all of us. Every 3 years all of us collectively bargain with UMass Admin to secure and improve our contract, or “Collective Bargaining Agreement”. We have a Bargaining Committee of elected reps, but their job is to make sure all of us are doing are part. How to do your part:

  • SAVE THE DATE for the first Bargaining Session
Tue March 24, 3-5pm Campus Center 9th Floor  [Add to your Google Calendar]
  • Tell non-members that if they have a GEO-eligible job, they are affected by this contract. But the only way their voice will be represented is if they become dues-paying members.
  • Read the contract. Inform yourself about your current benefits (leave and vacation is e.g. an important one that many members don’t know we have!)
  • This is it, it’s public now! GEO leadership is proud to announce that we are working on a housing allowance proposal, and working towards improving the CEEC and making a sustainable plan with Amherst Family Center. If you are a parent, you know that CEEC and AFC are the two most important places for childcare and early education around here! If you haven’t heard of these places, Google them, get informed!
HOUSING AND FAMILY ARE VERY IMPORTANT IN THIS YEAR’S BARGAINING!

2. GEO office is going to move this week to the room next door, i.e. 917 Campus Center. The current room 911 is going to be re-done, and we will get it back as a meeting room once that’s done. Our new office is looking good! Please stop by next week and anytime after, but know that this week we are strictly appointment-only because we’ll be busy moving.

3. Up With Workers breakfast goes to Goessman!Join friends and fellow workers and talk about what you want in your new contract, what rocked and what sucked in the old one [Peruse full contract here]
We just made some waves in Computer Science and College of Ed, making friends and learning about people’s motivations and aspirations. Help make this event useful and fun for you too!
