NOTICE OF ELECTIONS: GEO-UAW 2322 OFFICERS & DELEGATES TO THE CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION

Dear GEO Members,

Nominations have closed for GEO elections for 2026-2027. Thank you to everyone who has stepped to nominate themselves or thoughtfully nominated someone else. Voting will begin by secret ballot starting April 27th and conclude April 29th. Candidate statements will be emailed to members and available on the GEO website on April 15th. Please see the official election notice below:

There will be an election for GEO-UAW 2322 Officers: (2) Co-Chairs, (2) Membership Organizer, (1) Membership Mobilization Coordinator, and (3) Delegates to the Constitutional Convention. As there were fewer candidates than there are open positions for the Steering Committee At-Large representatives, all nominees for those positions have been elected by acclamation and will not appear on the ballot.

VOTING

This election will take place in a hybrid format to allow all members to have as much opportunity as possible to vote. Voting will conclude at the April General Membership Meeting—April 29, 2026 (5:30-7:30pm in LGRT 1033). Results will be announced in that meeting. Times, dates, and modality for alternative voting will be announced closer to the actual election.

In accordance with the bylaws, to accommodate those who cannot attend the membership meeting, voting will be conducted electronically. Additional voting by secret ballot (and for those who need to cast challenged ballots) will take place in the Campus Center union office (917) on the following days and times:

Monday, April 27: 11am-3pm

Tuesday, April 28: 1pm-4pm

TERM AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF OFFICERS & STEERING MEMBERS AT-LARGE

In accordance with the GEO Bylaws, all officers are elected for one year terms. Elections will be held for:

-GEO Co-chair (2) (20 hr., 52 week contract)

-Membership Organizer (2) (52-week, 20-hour contract)

-Mobilization Coordinator (1) (52-week, 20-hour contract)

-Delegates to the UAW Constitutional Convention (3 delegates, 3 alternates) (volunteer)

Two (2) GEO Co-Chairs:

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: organizing and overseeing the election of Stewards in departments and/or work sites; Chairing Steering Committee meetings and General Membership meetings and ensuring agendas are set for both; primary GEO representatives to the Joint Council of Local 2322 and must attend Joint Council meetings; except where otherwise noted, the co-chairs shall be considered to be the official representatives of GEO to the Administration and in all external relations; sign agreements between GEO and the University (with approval of the General Membership and/or Assembly of Stewards); shall serve as liaisons for the Steering Committee to the Staff; responsible for ensuring GEO representation at Central Labor Council meetings; speak on behalf of GEO to media, the University, etc.; act as primary liaisons between GEO and other Unions; manage the production of media and publicity; oversee publication of GEO newsletter and web page; organizing Standing Committees; and assist the union in achieving its overall mission in the workplace.

Membership Organizer (2)

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: assisting with membership drives and engaging in consistent field work; coordinating events and workshops that develop membership participation; recruiting, organizing and overseeing the election of Stewards in departments and/or work sites; fostering stewardship through one-on-one meetings; attending General Membership and Assembly of Stewards meetings; developing awareness of the various issues affecting graduate workers – especially those affecting students of color, international students, students with disabilities, students with families, and students who are part of marginalized groups – and building organizing infrastructure for these issues; fostering and engaging in organizing projects around permissive subjects of bargaining, e.g. housing, immigration, accessibility, anti-sexism and anti-racism, and liaise with already-existing organizations involved in these spheres; expanding our capacity to meet the needs and interests of underrepresented groups are being met by the union, e.g. making accessible GEO events, spaces and information; ensuring that those attending GEO Membership Meetings and Steward’s Assembly are members; organizing the orientation schedule; maintaining accurate membership lists; coordinating department orientations; assuming duties of the Mobilization Coordinator if they are unavailable; and assisting the union in achieving its overall mission in the workplace.

One (1) Membership Mobilization Coordinator:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: supervising membership drives; assisting in boosting attendance; attending Steering and Assembly of Stewards meetings; introducing all new members and visitors; assisting the GEO Co-Chairs in preserving order when called upon to do so; ensuring that minutes are taken at all GEO meetings; maintaining records of organization; submitting requisitions to the Local and International as needed; planning and administering GEO operating budget and chairing the GEO Finance Committee; facilitating GEO sponsorship of events and organizations; taking charge of all property of GEO not otherwise provided for; to monitor and give guidance on procedural questions and rules; ensuring that those attending GEO meetings are either members or invited visitors; assuming duties if the Co-Chairs they are unavailable; and assisting the union in achieving its overall mission in the workplace.

Three (3) Delegates to the UAW international Constitutional Convention:

The constitutional convention is a four day convention where delegates vote on matters of the constitution and the national leadership of the UAW, our parent union. This convention is held every four years in Detroit, Michigan. This year it will be from June 15-18 2026. GEO is entitled to three delegates who will receive financial support from Local 2322 in order to attend.
