Fellow workers

We want to extend our support and solidarity to all of our members, as well as others in the UMass community, who are impacted by the conflict in Palestine. GEO has long maintained that the current conflict is rooted in the violent colonial occupation of Palestine by Israeli settlers. Palestinians face economic and military violence as part of their everyday lives, fueled by repeated airstrikes, imprisonments and an ongoing refugee crisis. GEO stands firmly with the people of Palestine and in support of an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestine. We do not accept the US government’s stance to stand “shoulder to shoulder” with an occupationist state intending a “total” and unprecedented blockade to cut off electricity, food, and water to all people of the Gaza strip. We extend our solidarity to the people facing and affected by this occupation. We also reiterate our continued stance in support of the BDS (Boycott, Divestments, Sanctions) movement, which GEO voted to endorse in 2016 (see press release here). The Palestinian struggle for independence is fundamentally united with our struggle as workers from across countries situated in a broader context. We call on UMass Amherst to take a definitive stance on the current conflict in this critical moment, and to reject colonial violence, occupation, and the wrongful displacement of Palestinians in their homeland.

In solidarity, GEO Leadership
