Fellow Workers,

We hope your semesters are going well and that you are enjoying the autumn weather. Please mark your calendars, we have several important events and socials coming up this week!

📣 Our October General Membership Meeting will take place this Thursday, October 13th, from 4-6 pm in Campus Center 804. If you have anything you’d like to add to the agenda, please email cai and thomas by Wednesday evening, October 12th. The agenda can be viewed here, and the zoom link is: https://umass-amherst.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJMqf-6vrzsqEtaOyPMq-wJfVtpLaIhWvDA5

Victory in Worcester! Graduate students at Clark University have reached a tentative agreement with administrators for an increase in stipends and an expansion of health benefits. This marks another important win for graduate student unions, while once again showing that collective action gets the goods!

🏘 Tonight, October 11th, our organizing committee will be meeting, 6-7pm on Zoom. We will be ironing out the last couple of details for the pumpkin carving social (see details below!) and talk about ongoing organizing projects, including updates on organizing going on at the University Village graduate student housing!

📜 We are holding a Steward’s Training Session this Saturday, October 15th, from 10 AM-Noon, in Campus Center 804. Food and drinks will be provided. We will review the grievance process and talk about ways to maintain a safe and fair workplace. This training is open to all members!

🎃 This weekend, we will have a family-friendly social event planned for Sunday, October 16th from 4-6 pm at the Groff Park Pavilion in Amherst. We’ll bring snacks, drinks, and supplies to decorate pumpkins! We recommend bringing your own pumpkin, though we will have a few pumpkins available if you forget. For those looking to bring their own: Atkins and Trader Joe’s are both selling them for a relatively low price!

🗳 Finally, on October 24th, 6 – 8PM, we will be hosting a Virtual Candidate Forum for candidates running for UAW Region 9A director. These candidates will answer any questions that we have about their vision for the future of the UAW at both the regional and national level, as well as how they plan to use the position to do so. Please submit questions for the candidates here. This is a great opportunity to speak directly with UAW leaders and to ensure that our needs will be represented at the national level.

As always, please feel free to reach out to geoor stop by our office at Campus Center 919.
