Fellow Workers,

This week we have a few exciting announcements to share:

The grad students at Clark University in Worcester, MA have initiated a strike! If you’re in the area, please join them on the picket line as they strike for a living wage. If you’re unable to go in person and still want to show solidarity, you could also follow them on Twitter or consider contributing to their strike fund. A Venmo code and press release about the action are attached below.

The Organizing Committee will meet this afternoon (Tuesday, 10/4) from 5:30 – 7 pm to discuss coffee hours, our upcoming fall social event, and other ways to organize throughout the semester. Some University Village residents will also be here tonight to talk to us about their most pressing issues, and their current plans. The zoom link for that meeting is here: https://umass-amherst.zoom.us/j/92007126844

The Abolition Committee will meet for the first time this semester on Thursday (10/6) from 4-6 pm. The Abolition Committee of the Graduate Employee Organization of UMass Amherst (UAW Local 2322) stands in solidarity with calls for abolition from the UMass Amherst undergraduate student body, Western Mass. community organizations, and students and workers at colleges and universities across the higher education landscape. The zoom link for that meeting is here: https://umass-amherst.zoom.us/j/98815892180

The next General Membership Meeting will be next Thursday (10/13) from 4-6 pm. The location is still TBD but we will provide food and drinks for those of you who can join us in person. Please send us anything you’d like to discuss at this meeting so that we can incorporate it into our agenda.

Contract signing is still in progress. We’ll do our best to answer your questions and will share updates about fees, stipends, and so on once we receive them.

Finally, as always, if you’re organizing anything in your departments that you’d like to share with the rest of our membership please send an email to geo.

Solidarity,
GEO Leadership
